Dr. Yi Guo from CSIRO Visited HRS Lab

On April 11th, 2014, Dr. Yi Guo from CSIRO during was invited to visit HRS Lab, and gave a lecture on “Data fusion via low-rank matrix completion”. Low Rank Matrix Completion (LRMC) assumed that the original data matrix has low rank, and it is possible to be recovered (completed) via limited matrix elements. One typical application of LRMC is the famous “Netflix Problem” which aims to accurately recommend movies to Netflix subscribers according to limited information like personal favorites . Dr. Guo and his group introduced LRMC into the field of remote sensing data fusion, and validated its effectiveness using simulated remotely sensed data.

Dr. Yi Guo is a visiting scholar of Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received the PhD degree in computer science from University of New England in 2008, and then joined CSIRO. His major research interest includes machine learning, data mining and computational statistics.
